Vernon R. Cox

Vernon Richard Cox, age 80, 106 N. Indiana 14, Akron, died at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 25, 2009 in his residence following a one year illness

He was born March 1, 1929 in Hebron to Millard Donald and Margaret Caroline (Lamphier) Cox.  On Dec. 19, 1947, in Goodland, he married Helen I. Sell, who survives.

He lived in Akron for three years coming from Atwood where he lived for 49 years.  He graduated from Goodland High School in 1947.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from May 23, 1949, and was honorably discharge on Nov. 15, 1952.  He worked at RR Donnelley, Warsaw, from 1960 to 1992 in the Preliminary Layout Department in W.S.C. SVL LRT.  He was a member of the Akron Church of God and was involved in work camps through I.C.A.R.E., Interfaith Coalition and Oklahoma Work Camp in the summer.  He helped with the Hurricane Andrew recovery effort in Miami, Florida.  He hobby was carpentry.

Surviving Vernon along with his wife are a daughter, Diana Lynn (spouse Bill) Davis of Byron Mich.; four sons:  Jon (spouse Kathy) Cox of Atwood, Mark (spouse Sonia) Cox of Akron, Matthew (spouse Tereasa) Cox of Nappanee, David (spouse Traci) Cox of Clermont, Florida; a sister, Anna Kay of Bradenton, Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Clarence Cox; a sister, Margery Zurakowski; and a grandson, Ryan Jacob Cox.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday at the Akron Church of God with the Rev. Terry Canfield officiating.  Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-6:00 p.m., Sunday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron.

Memorials can be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County or the Wee Care Daycare of the Akron Church of God.
