Twila Diane Smith, age 66 of Rochester, Indiana died on March 2, 2019 at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana at 6:25 a.m.
She was born on October 9, 1952 in Rochester, Indiana to James and Donna Belle (Ellis) Umberger. Twila lived all of her life in the Rochester area. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1971.
Twila married Gary Lee Smith on October 4, 1971 in Niles, Michigan. They welcomed their son Timothy into their life on May 23, 1977. Twila lost her husband on October 28, 1985 when Tim was only eight years old.
Being the head of the household, Twila was very versatile and worked at many jobs including Wendy’s, the Streamliner, Walmart and TOPPS where she worked for twenty years and her last job was at Townsend’s Meat and Deli all in Rochester, Indiana.
She was a member in several organizations including the American Legion Post #27 in Plymouth, Indiana, the Eagles Lodge (F.O.E.) #852 and the VFW Post #1343 both in Rochester, Indiana. She attended the Solid Rock Church in Rochester, Indiana.
Twila enjoyed early on being on a bowling team and loved doing word searches. She loved holding and cuddling babies and her nieces and nephews were a big part of her life along with family.
Survivors include: son: Timothy Smith of Rochester, Indiana; mother: Donna (Umberger) Spencer of Cicero, Indiana; brothers: Kevin Spencer of Tipton, Indiana; Brian (spouse Carol) Spencer of Cicero, Indiana; step-brothers: Mark (spouse Kathy) Spencer of Westfield, Indiana; Paul (spouse Leslie) Spencer of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters: Kim (spouse Russ) Spencer-Milkey of Arcadia, Indiana; Brenda (spouse Kurt) King of Cicero, Indiana; step-sister: Janet (spouse Greg) Murray of Fort Pierce, Florida; sister-in-laws: Karen Umberger of Mocksville, North Carolina; Nancy (spouse Robb) Webb of Camby, Indiana; Teri (spouse Chris) Sarna of Plymouth, Indiana; Maggi (spouse Fred) Belcastro of The Colony, Texas; several nieces and nephews

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Earl-Love Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Neal Brown from the Omega Christian Church will officiate.
Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Rochester, Indiana
