Steven James Swygart, age 65, 510 E. Walnut St., Akron, passed away at 2:37 p.m. at Parkview Hospital (DuPont) in Fort Wayne, Ind. on July 11, 2013.
He was born on September 8, 1947 in Wabash County to Robert J. and Maxine A. (Frankstine) Swygart.
Steven lived in Akron for the past five years coming from New Haven, Ind. near Fort Wayne where he lived for 30 years. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1965 in North Manchester, Ind. He married Jeanne A. Ice in 1971 in Laketon, Ind. at the United Methodist Church and later was divorced after 27 years of marriage.
Steven served in the US Army for three years from 1966 to 1969.
After graduating from the Indianapolis School of Embalming and becoming a licensed funeral director, he was employed by Bender Funeral Home, DeLaughter Funeral Home, both of North Manchester, Ind. and then worked for DO McComb Funeral Home in Fort Wayne for 22 years.
He was a member of the Laketon American Legion and attended the Akron United Methodist Church.
Survivors include twin children: Tonya A. Clark of Fort Wayne and Matt S. (spouse Karen) Swygart of Battle Creek, Michigan; (5) grandchildren; (1) sister: Marilyn S. (spouse Charles) Miller of Akron; and his mother: Maxine A. Swygart who resides at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his father: Robert J. Swygart and brother: Ronald E. Swygart.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester Street, Akron, from 10:00 to 12:00 noon with funeral services following visitation officiated by Rev. David Eaton of the Akron United Methodist Church.
The United States Army will render Military Honors at the service and the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard will perform Military Rites. Burial will be at a later date in the Laketon Cemetery.
