(George) Shannon Buck
Shannon Buck, age 78, 12325 E. 300 S., Akron, Indiana, died on July 25, 2015 at his residence of pancreatic cancer.
He was born on February 18, 1937 to Walter H. and Mary Velom (Prater) Buck in Grayson, Kentucky. He graduated from Prichard High School in Grayson, Kentucky in 1955. Shannon earned a BA degree from Morehead State University. He then lived in Michigan before moving to Akron, Indiana in 1976.
Shannon served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He married Mary Jean Berol on May 25, 1968 in Jackson, Michigan.
He owned and operated the Akron Feed & Grain and then owned and operated South Side Video Store in Akron before retiring. His last job was working at Kroger in Rochester until he became ill in March of 2015.
His hobby was racing mini stock cars for almost 20 years at the Plymouth Speedway and New Paris Speedway. He loved animals and especially, his horses.
He was a member of the Akron Church of God.
Surviving Shannon is his wife: Mary Buck of Akron; (1) son: Bryon S. (spouse Heather) of Alpharetta, Georgia and children Dylan Simison of North Webster and Mary Katelyn Buck of Alpharetta, Georgia; (1) daughter: Lori J. Fitzpatrick (companion James Kats) of Tippecanoe and children David Fitzpatrick and Jacob Kats of Tippecanoe, Lukus Kats of Nappanee and Joshua Kats of Warsaw; (1) brother: Louie (spouse Rita) Buck of Evansville; (1) sister: Nila (Buck) Booth of Louisville, Kentucky.
Preceding Shannon in death are his parents; brother: Franklin Buck; (2) sisters: Pearl Porter and Shirley Manning.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Earl-Love Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating.
Burial will be in the Akron IOOF Cemetery in Akron, Indiana
