Ruth Ann (Gilbertson) Bremer
Ruth resided at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana where she passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the age of 93.
She was born on August 13, 1921 in Edmund, Wisconsin to Oscar E. and Carol (Draggs) Gilbertson. In her early years, she lived in Edmund, Wisconsin; several years in Boulder, Colorado; 50 years in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and 10 years in Akron, Indiana and North Manchester, Indiana.
Ruth graduated from Dodgeville High School, Wisconsin in 1939 and then received her nursing degree in 1946 from Milwaukee General School of Nursing. She married Robert Baird (deceased) in 1952 and later divorced. She then married Donald J. Bremer on September 2, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were married over 50 years when he died in 2011.
Ruth was a registered nurse and took great pride in her work as a nurse and enjoyed reunions with Blodgett Memorial Hospital retired nurses. She had been a member of Wyoming Park United Methodist Church and the Akron United Methodist Church. She loved to encourage others, knitting and Bible studies. Caring for her family and friends gave her much joy.
Surviving Ruth is (1) daughter: Carol (spouse David) Ellenwood of Rochester; (2) sons: Douglas Baird of Golden, CO; Thomas (spouse Nan) Baird of Woodland Hills, CA; (7) grandchildren: Matthew (spouse Susan) Ellenwood & family, Marc (spouse Andrea) Ellenwood & family, Kathryn Ellenwood, Bradley Ellenwood (Justin McKendry), Patrick Baird, Trevor Baird, Jason Baird; (5) great-grandchildren; (1) brother-in-law, William Jesse; nieces and nephew, all of Wisconsin; (2) cousins: Mary Jean Thomas, Dodgeville, WI and Kent Austin of Verona, WI; special friends: Jim and Bonnie Linscott, Nancy Chapel, Paul and Patty Judd & family, all of Grand Rapids, MI; Maci Callow, North Manchester, IN.
Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; sister, Barbara Jesse; husband, Donald Bremer.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 with family and friends at Peabody Retirement Community with the memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Sue Babovec, Chaplain at Peabody Retirement Community.
Burial will be at The City of Grandville Cemetery in Grandville, Michigan.
