Marie Mathias, age 96, formally of rural Roann, Indiana died on March 3, 2025 at 5:10 pm at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana where she resided for ten months.
Opal Marie Mathias was born on January 18, 1929 in Miami County to William James and Mary Gertrude (Shambarger) Wright. Marie graduated from Macy High School in 1946.
On January 20, 1951 she married Malcom Dean Mathias in Macy, Indiana and lived her lifetime in the Macy area. Marie worked and retired from Eaton Controls in North Manchester, Indiana.
She attended the Pleasant Hill Community Church in Macy, Indiana. Marie raised chickens and enjoyed gardening and baking. She enjoyed making noodles for the church.
Surviving Marie are (2) daughters: Rita Hughes of Macy, IN; Virginia (spouse Steve) Kurtz of South Whitley, IN; (1) son: Ray (spouse Lisa) Mathias of Roann, IN; (9) grandchildren: Doug, Beth and Maria Carter, Ryan Hughes, Travis and Justin Kurtz, Amy Libertowski, Rachel Hester, Brooke Mathias; (15) great grandchildren.
Preceding Marie in death are her parents, husband: Malcolm (2001), (1) daughter: Donna Carter and husband Mike, (2) grandsons: Randy Hughes and Jamie Carter, (4) sisters: Alice Teel, Gladys Dale and husband Bob, Frances Wilhelm and husband Charles, Garnet Wildermuth and husband Joe, (1) brother: John Wright, (1) son-in-law: Roger Hughes (3) half-brothers: Fred, Lowell and Kenneth Wright, (1) half-sister: Iola Kamp
Viewing and Visitation will be at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, IN 46910 on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. A public graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Gilead Cemetery, Gilead, Indiana officiated by Pastor Wayne Balmer.
