Lewie Arnold Overlander, age 81 of Akron, Indiana died on January 31, 2020 following a lengthy illness at 11:35 p.m. at his residence.
He was born on April 4, 1938 in rural Miami County, Indiana to Edward and Catherine (Kamp) Overlander. He was one of six children and lived his whole life in the Akron community.
Lewie married Joan Williams on April 3, 1967 and she died on June 22, 1987. He then married Kathie Ann Swain on November 5, 1993 in Paintsville, Kentucky who survives.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Lewie was a hard workingman who was one of the original founders and help establish O & R Construction in Akron, Indiana in the mid 60’s. Later on in the late 80’s, he went into business for himself as a carpenter.
Lewie was a member of the Rochester VFW Post #1343, Rochester American Legion Post #36, Rochester Fraternal of Eagles #852 and a loyal patron of the “Bears Den” in Akron.
Survivors of Lewie are his wife: Kathie Overlander of Akron, IN; (5) step-children: Beth Ann Bahney of Wabash, IN; LiaRosa (spouse Jose) of Akron (Rock Lake) IN; Jessica Bentley of Akron, IN; Cori Groninger of Akron (Rock Lake) IN; Cody (Jamie) of New Haven, IN; (1) brother: Raymond E. Overlander of Pendleton, IN; (2) sisters: Carolyn Murphy of Rochester, IN; Marilyn (spouse Robert) Cleveland of Peru, IN; (3) grandchildren: Carter Bentley of Akron, IN; Carliegh Bentley of Akron, IN; Maizie Lynn Groninger of New Haven, IN; a total of (13) grandchildren and (8) great-grandchildren and his loyal canine friend, Jack.
Preceding Lewie in death are his parents, (2) brothers: Bobby Kamp and Lawrence Overlander; (1) sister-in-law: Donna Overlander and his loyal canine friend, T-Bone
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester Street, Akron, Indiana.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Phil Pratt. Burial will be at the Akron IOOF Cemetery, Akron, Indiana
