Kay Donna Saner, age 76, West Lafayette, Indiana passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at her residence.
Kay was born in Lancaster, Ohio on October 8, 1935 to Harry Donovan and Margaret Ophelia (Collins) Karns. Her family moved to Rochester in 1949. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1953. In her senior year of high school, she was first baseman on the state championship softball team. Her father, “Don” Karns was a deputy surveyor and served as a Fulton county deputy sheriff for seven years.
On June 6, 1954, she married Robert Eugene Saner at the First Christian Church in Rochester.
Along with her husband they owned and operated Commercial Refrigeration in Rochester for many years. Kay’s interests included singing, music, flowers, dogs and horses. She was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.
She lived most of her life in the Rochester and Akron area, then 14 years in Corpus Christi, Texas with her husband. The last few years of her life, she lived in Indianapolis and then moved into the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Surviving Kay is her daughter, Roberta (Saner) Feeney, husband Mike, grandson Scott of Indianapolis, Indiana and her special companion, her miniature Schnauzer “Munchie”.
Preceding her in death are her parents and husband “Bob” Saner who died in 2001.
Friends and family will miss her dearly and her soft-spoken voice.
No funeral services or visitation will take place. Observance of Kay’s passing will be private. As per Kay’s wishes, her remains have been bequeathed to the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. After cremation takes place, she will be buried in the Indiana Veterans Home Cemetery beside her husband.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Fulton County Humane Society.
