Obituary

Jack Elden Horn, age 88 died on November 10, 2019 at 8:45 p.m. at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, Indiana where he was a resident.

He was born on May 28, 1931 in Alexandria, Indiana to Frank and Alice (Dikey) Horn.  He graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1945.  Jack married Patricia Ruth Malicoat on June 10, 1951 in Alexandria, Indiana.

Jack served 32 years in the Indiana National Guard and his rank was 1st Sargent.  He worked 32 years at Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana and retired from there in 1991.  After that, he worked at Petro Brothers in Warsaw as a parts manager for 10 years.  Jack lived in the Akron area for 33 years before moving to Peabody Retirement Community 1-1/2 years ago with his wife.

He was an avid bowler and bowled several years in a bowling league at Norco Alleys in Alexandria and Elwood where he once bowled a perfect game. Jack played basketball in high school and on a semi-pro team later.  He was a die-hard fan of IU basketball.  He loved to ride his Honda Golden Wing motorcycle and collected model cars, enjoyed watching car races on TV and was proud of his own cars and kept them clean and shined all the time.  He was a perfectionist in everything that he did and had all his tools neat, labeled and organized.  He enjoyed mowing his yard and other people’s too.  He was a member of the Jimmy Swaggart Media Church.  He enjoyed having visitors and seeing all of his grandchildren.

Surviving Jack is his wife: Patricia Horn of North Manchester; (3) children:  Timothy A. (spouse Debbie) Horn of Alexandria; Daniel E. (spouse Melody) Horn of Tipton; Julie R. (spouse Mike) Smith of Claypool; (1) brother: Donnie (spouse Maureen) Horn of Frankton; (1) sister: Sharon Walker of Summitville; (8) grandchildren: Lindsay (Jason) Smith, Brandon (Lisa) Dotson, Nick (Erin) Smith, Jordan Smith, Madira (Eric) Markley, Miriah (Brian) Burnell, Jason Horn and Crisi Young; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a special care giver: Gabby Hoffman.

Preceding Jack in death are his parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law and his brother Frankie Horn.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester Street, Akron, Indiana  46910.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Officiating the service will be Jason Smith.  Burial will be in the Akron IOOF Cemetery, Akron, Indiana.
