Helen Louise Cox

Helen L. Cox, age 87 of Nappanee, Indiana (formally of Akron and Atwood, Indiana) died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 6:55 p.m. at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Indiana where she was in rehab.

She was born on January 8, 1930 in Goodland, Indiana to Fred Lee Sell and Olive Minerva (Luse) Sell.  Helen was married to Vernon Cox on December 19, 1947 in Goodland, Indiana.

Helen worked 23 years and retired at RR Donnelley in Warsaw, Indiana where her main job was shipping clerk.

She lived in Atwood, Indiana since 1956 and then moved to Akron where she live for four years.  After her husband died and having some health issues, she move to Heritage House Senior Living in Nappanee, Indiana.

While living in Atwood, she attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church and then in Akron, she attended the Akron Church of God.  She was very active serving on many church boards.  Helen and her husband very involved in helping others:  She was involved in I.C.A.R.E. – Interfaith Coalition Andrew (Hurricane); helped with the Recovery Effort in Florida; helped at a work camp in the summer for the United Methodist Oklahoma Indian Project.

Helen enjoyed quilt making and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and gave them all the love she could.  Her favorite color was purple. She was very special and her own children considered her as “Super Mom”.

Surviving Helen are (5) children: Diana (William) Davis of Byron, Michigan; Jon (Kathy) Cox of Atwood, Indiana; Mark (Sonia) Cox of Akron, Indiana; Matthew (Tersa) Cox of Wakarusa, Indiana; David Cox of Milton, Florida; (2) brothers: Charles “Chuck” (Janet) Sell of Goodland, Indiana and Robert Sell of Goodland, Indiana; (1) sister: Leona (Bill) Elbert of West Lafayette, Indiana; (15) grandchildren; (24) great-grandchildren and two more on the way.

Preceding Helen in death is her husband, Vernon Cox in 2009; grandson, Ryan Jacob Cox in 2009; (3) brothers: James, Earl, and Phillip “Pete” Sell; (2) sisters: Ruth Marie Sell and Dorothy Stumbaugh; and a daughter-in-law: Traci Cox in 2015.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 – 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Earl-Love Funeral Home in Akron.

Service time will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 following visitation officiated by Pastor Jeff Sumner of Olive Branch Church.  Burial will follow in the Akron IOOF cemetery in Akron, Indiana.
