Gordon L. Groninger, age 87 of rural Akron, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 in his residence.
He was born November 12, 1925 in rural Fulton County to Roy L. and Mary (Ferree) Groninger. Gordon married Mary Louise Clark on September 20, 1950 in North Manchester, Indiana.
Gordon had lived in the Fulton County area all of his life graduating from Akron High School in 1944 and played on the basketball team.
He served in the United States Army and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and Overseas Service Bar.
He was a farmer and sold fertilizer for Kaiser Fertilizer and Occidental Petroleum. He also drove a school bus for several years in the rural Akron area.
Gordon enjoyed playing cards, watching and playing sports with his family.
He is survived by (4) children: Danny L. (spouse Karen) Groninger of rural Akron, Gregory L. (spouse Annette) Groninger of rural Akron, Nancy A. (spouse Howard) Davies of Ross, Ohio and Timothy L. Groninger of Fort Wayne, (1) sister: Alice McFarland of Fort Wayne, (8) grandchildren and (3) great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Louise in 2012, (2) sisters: Pauline Daine and Ruth Daine, (4) brothers: Otto, Harold, Dwight and Wayne.
Visitation is 3:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8 at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, Indiana.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. after visitation on Tuesday at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Terry Canfield.
