Francis C. Davis, age 87, 601 E. Rochester Street, Akron, died Sunday at 2:25 p.m., July 6, 2008 in his residence. He had been ill since December 2007.
He was born Nov. 25, 1921 in Akron to Harvey and Fay (Kamp) Davis. On Sept. 6, 1940, he married Ina Taylor, who survives.
Living most of his life in Akron, he served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, retiring in 1962. He worked at KG Brown, Mentone, for 18 years. He was a member of the Manitou Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Moose, the Eagle and Masonic lodges, all in Rochester. He was an Akron High School graduate and received a pilot’s license in 1953.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Davis, Akron; two sons: Francis R. “Butch” (spouse Wanda) Davis of Akron, and William H. Davis of Jeffersonville; two brothers: Richard L. (spouse Joan) Davis of Burket, and Marvin L. (spouse Lenora) Davis of Warsaw; two sisters: Juanita C. Plunkett of Tell City, and Mildred C. Creager of North Manchester; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A private funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. today at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, with Rev. Allen Barton officiating. Private visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Olive Branch Church of God, 4581 E. 1200 North, Roann, IN 46974.
