Doris Edna Saner, 85, 111 Saner Drive, Akron died at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Meadows in Greenwood, IN where she had resided for the past four months. She was born in Wabash County to George Leondus and Cleo Marie (Clingaman) Pottenger. She grew up in North Manchester graduating from Laketon High School in 1945. She was active in the high school band for four years playing the bass drum.
Doris married Loyd F. Saner on June 30, 1947 in Akron by Rev. Daniel Slaybaugh. She worked at Brian’s, printing bomber wires for WWII for two years and then at the Heckman Bindery both in North Manchester until she got married. She then worked at Johnson Publishing Co. in Pittsburgh, PA where she lived while her husband attended Watchmaking School. In 1948 along with her husband, founded Saner Jewelry which was at the current location of Lake City Bank in Akron. She was co-owner with her husband of Tic Toc Trophy Shop, which was founded in 1961 and sold in 1980 where she worked as an engraver. Along with her husband, they developed the Saner housing addition on the east side of Akron where 26 houses have been built and three businesses.
She attended the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church in Akron. She had a personal ministry of sending greeting cards to people and providing food to those in need. During the life of Doris, she expressed her love and faith of Jesus Christ and how she believed in answered prayer. Through the years she and her husband had been through several health disorders and been healed. She wanted to leave this world as her last testimony and witness for God with the words of the song titled “He Touched Me”.
Surviving Doris are three children; Dennis (spouse Neena) Saner of Mooresville, Deanna (spouse Mike) Love of Akron, and Denise (spouse Les) Howe of Huntington; (5) grandchildren: Eric (spouse Erin) Love of Akron and their three children: Ethan, Elijah and Libby; Brian Love of Akron; Kevin Howe of Louisville, KY; Lisa Howe of Lubbock, TX; Matthew (spouse Jessica) of Zionsville and their daughter Zoey.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Richard Pottenger in 1998 and her husband Loyd in 2003.
Funeral services will be held at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 East Rochester Street, Akron, on Monday, September 17th at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Butch Troke with visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, September 16th 2:00-6:00 p.m. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in North Manchester.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.
