Alice May McFarland, 92 of Fort Wayne, formerly of Akron, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Renaissance Village in Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident since April 2014.
She was born April 30, 1922 to Roy and Mary (Ferree) Groninger in rural Fulton county. Alice was a proud graduate of Akron High School (Flyers) in the class of 1940. She married Floyd Dale ("Jake") McFarland on August 9, 1941 in Covington, KY.
Alice was a Disko and Akron resident for 84 years. She worked at the Akron Bank from December 4, 1944 to September 20, 1993. Many of her fondest memories in life are from her friendships with the people of the Akron and Beaver Dam communities. Working at the local bank gave her the opportunity to meet and know so many fine people.
She was also, so happy to be with family, coming from her family of eight children and having eight children from husband Jake's side of the family.
Survivors include a son, Jeff and wife Connie, a grandson Darren and wife Brandi, a step-granddaughter Jackie Ramsey and husband Dan, a step-granddaughter Julie Pettibone and husband Rob, and great-grandchildren: Ryan, Shaelynn, Gwen, Brayla, Jennifer and soon to be born Dominic.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband "Jake" in 1988, sisters: Pauline and Ruth, brothers: Harold, Otto, Gordon, Wayne, and Dwight, and a step-granddaughter Jennifer.
A private service will be held at a later date at the Earl-Love Funeral Home with burial in the Akron Cemetery.
