Terry L. Shumaker

Terry Lee Shumaker, age 72, Fort Wayne, Indiana died on January 14, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on September 1, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa to Edward “Jack” and Betty (Carter) Shumaker.  He married Carolyn Miller on August 17, 1965 at the Silver Creek Church of God.

Terry was in the United States Air Force where he served three years at Grissom Air Force Base and is a Viet Nam Veteran.

He was raised and educated in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Terry was a graduate from Huntington University with a B.S. degree in Sociology.  He also received a M.S. degree in Education at Indiana University and a M.S. degree in Divinity at Earlham School of Religion.

Terry was the pastor at Lake Cicott, Richland Center and Burton.  He was the youth pastor at Grace United Methodist Churches, White Branch Church of the Brethren, Huntington Church of the Brethren, Stone Church of the Brethren, Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren and Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren.  He was also a missionary in Tijuana, Mexico; New Navajo, New Mexico; and Riverside Christian School in Kentucky.

Terry had taught high school and elementary school at Kewanna and Caston schools.  He was a member of the Christ Our Shepherd Church of the Brethren in Greenwood, Indiana.

Surviving Terry is his wife: Carolyn of 51 years; (2) daughters: Melissa Shumaker (friend Dana Cuney) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Renee Sills of Larwill; (1) son: Jeffrey Shumaker of Warsaw; (5) grandchildren: Autumn Thomas, serving in the U.S. Navy in Italy; Kari Hines of Florida; Blake Shumaker of Florida; Logan and Hunter Sills of Larwill; and (3) great-grandchildren.

Preceding Terry in death are his parents and one grandchild.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Silver Creek Church of God, Silver Lake, Indiana from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Chris Bruch and Rev. Chuck Bell.  Burial will be in the Silver Creek Church of God cemetery.
